EXHIBITION: THE LAUREN TROUDE SCHOLARSHIP WINNER

A8" exhibition by Nicolas Moraud

Laurent Troude 2024 scholarship winner

From September 12 to October 4, the UPP - Maison des photographes is hosting an exhibition by the winner of the Laurent Troude Bursary.

Photojournalist Laurent Troude (1968-2018) has spent his entire career in the press. He started out at the age of 20 at L'Humanité with social photography, before moving on to L'Équipe, then Libération in 1996, which was his home for over twenty years. His photography often stands out at first glance, with its shifted vision of an event, its original angles, its uncompromising and human way of portraying the political world and its players. When he passed away in 2018, at the age of 50, an association in his name was founded to launch a bursary to help photographers under 30 with projects in France.

The bursary was made possible thanks to several partners: Libération, Saif, Divergence Images, the ImageSingulières festival and finally the UPP, which today presents the subject of its winner: Nicolas Moreaud, A8.

Presentation of "A8" :

When the viaduct is mentioned to the inhabitants of Luc-en-Provence, it awakens a deep resentment, that of a wounded collective memory. Built in 1974, it illustrates the malaise of a sacrificed village, a symbol of the rapid and painful transformation of rural landscapes in the face of the demands of economic development. Constant traffic noise, pollution and the disruption of natural landscapes have all contributed to a feeling of abandonment. The erosion of a way of life and the destruction of historical heritage have disrupted the identity of these places. Today, the A8 motorway viaduct embodies the loss of an ideal.

With this work, I question the coexistence of human beings with these authoritarian infrastructures. Trapped between two architectures, the irreconcilable past and present. I explore this interweaving where nostalgia survives a future that forces resilience.

About the photographer :

Born in 2002 in the Var region of France, he began his higher education at film school, but soon turned to photography. After stopping his studies, he photographed the movement against pension reform, and it was in this way that he came into contact with the profession of photojournalist.

At the end of 2023, he decided to take the Documentary Photojournalist course at EMI. And it was with the newspaper L'Humanité that he familiarized himself with the profession.

He becomes the sixth winner of the Laurent Troude grant, enabling him to continue my work on the A8.
